Carramaiza, an annex of the main town of Zújar, is a patchwork
of traditional cave houses. Its inhabitants are a hospitable and
straightforward people, who for the most part work on the land, farming and raising stock.
It has a current population of 121 inhabitants.

The old road between Zújar
and Carramaiza crossed over the River
Guadiana Menor by means of a bridge and now no longer
exists after the construction of the
Negratín Resevoir. Now the people of Carramaiza
are forced to make a 40Km detour around the mountain Cerro
Jabalcón, in order to get to Zújar.

The unique architecture of Carramaiza's cave houses,
together with its attractive views of the resevoir
and of Cerro Jabalcón, have contributed to
a recent development in the village's rural tourism.
For nature lovers, there are paticularly charming
routes through the valley of Guadalentin
and in the surrounding areas of the Cazorla National Park,
Segura and Las Villas.
