Zújar with its natural setting (The flat plains,
Jabalcón hill, Negratín reservoir and the Carramaiza
planes) offers many leisure activites, of which the following stand out:
|
| |
|
|
|
|
|
Hang-gliding
The peak of Jabalcón hill has two slopes used
for take-offs, one being east-facing and the other west-facing.
As a separate peak it is isolated
and therefore one of the best places to take off
for paragliders, hang-gliders and paramotors in
Andalucía. Ample proof of this is the fact that the Spanish Hang-gliding championship was held here
in July 2000.

Cycling and mountain bike
The roads and tracks of Jabalcón offer many possibilities for mountain bikes,
as do the routes across the plain with their spectacular ravines and numerous gullies
throughout the region.
An important summer mountain bike competition is held on 15 August
:The Jabalcón mountain bike trials.

Cross country motorcycling, scrambling etc.
Motor cycling sports have become more important over recent years,
above all scrambling, and the region boasts a circuit.
The dry climate along with the possibility of using dry riverbeds and
little used rural tracks etc. should allow for the continued practice of these sports.

Hiking, orientation
etc.
A variety of beauty spots combined with a network of numerous tracks and pathways
make hiking
and walking across the plains of Zújar an important pastime.
Anyone can take part, crossing both the flat planes and the
ravines.( the planes of Carramaiza and hillsides of
Jabalcón).
It should be pointed out that the municipal area is crossed by the
GR-7, the important well-trodden path which connects The Pyrenees
with Algeciras.
Here, the route ascends along the path of the Baños to Zújar, across the plane, goes up to
the Catín plane and on towards Baza.

Climbing
In the Jabalcón hills there are a number of different rock faces with
low to medium difficulty which are appropriate for rock climbing.
The so called Sun Stone is located on the SE face and the
Stone of the Falcon on the E face. Both are short stretches of vertical rock.
Free climbers can also access the peak of the Jabalcón hill by other
routes.

Swimming and water sports
The Negratín reservoir is an ideal place for many different water
sports. Between Spring and Autumn boat rides,
windsurfing, waterskiing, rowing and canoeing are possible.
The possibility of enjoying thermal baths in the
Zújar Baths should also be pointed out in this section.
These were rebuilt in the same spot after the disappearence at the beginning
of the 90's of the original spa installations beneath the new reservoir.

Other activities
Zújar Townhall boasts other sports amenities.
There is an open air stadium which has facilities for a variety
of both team sports (volleyball, handball, basketball, 5 a-side football
etc.) and individual sports ( tennis, table tennis, etc ).
These facilities are very popular during the Summer months
as the public swimming pool can be found here.
As well as walks in the immediate surroundings there are
2 recreational areas equipped with tables, benches and barbercues
where a pleasant day in the open air can be spent.
They are both located on the hang-gliding take off slopes of
Jabalcón hill (west slope,
and east slope).
